Breeding Rules 2023
** As of 10/15/2023, I am temporarily not accepting breeding requests. I will be auditing all of my records, as time outside of work allows. As I complete the audit for each breed, in alphabetic order, that breed will become available for requests again. I will update this page periodically and denote which breeds have been completed.**
Welcome to Tier Forêt, the Animal Forest! Tier Forêt has been breeding model horses and other domestic animals since the early 1990s, has been a member of The International Pedigree Assignment and Bloodline Research Association (IPABRA) since 2005, and has bred horses residing in six different countries. With nearly one thousand horses available in over fifty breeds and a wide variety of colors and bloodlines, there are many different options here for you to choose from to find just the right pedigree for your model horse.
Standard Disclaimer: This is a model horse (and other animal) hobby site; all of the animals described on this site are plastic models or paper identities; they are not SIM animals, nor are they live, biological entities. Any real animals listed on this site are for pedigree research purposes only and will be denoted with (R) behind their names.
Please read this page in its entirety before requesting a breeding; I know it's long, but I've tried to cover all bases.
General:
This site is currently very much a work in progress, and will be for some time yet, so have patience and if there is anything not yet available, or if you have any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected]
While I do have several species of domestic animals available, the majority of Tier Forêt's inhabitants are horses and so the horses will get priority with regards to website building and language. If I have fewer than five horses in a particular breed, then that breed will either be grouped with a similar/related breed or added to the "Other Breeds" page.
Color Genetics:
I do require that all breedings from my horses be realistic and accurate with regard to equine color genetics. I will not approve a breeding if the chosen parents do not in combination have the alleles required to produce the offspring's coat color. Towards that end, I have provided an information page on equine color genetics on this site (work in progress) as well as stating the color genes of all sires and dams described on this site. When making a breeding request, I would prefer, but do not require, that you let me know the foal's color genetics for my records.
Names:
I follow the naming rules required of various horse breeds and request that you do the same. I have stated the rules for each breed on that breed's page.
Affixes:
Most breeds allow an affix (prefix or suffix) to be included in a horse's name and some require it. I do not require an affix be used unless it is required for that breed, so for most breeds it is optional; however, my affix can only be used if I own the dam. For most breeds my affix is "TF" and is a prefix unless a suffix is the norm or requirement for a particular breed. If an affix is required for a particular breed and/or if my affix is different for that breed, I will say so on that breed's page.
Aging vs. Non-Aging:
All of my horses are aging, but I do allow both aging and non-aging foals; non-aging foals will be assigned a birthyear in their parents' records that corresponds to their age at the time that the pedigree is issued.
Available years:
Each of my horses has a specified range of years for which they are available as a sire/dam and this range will be given in their information. For stallions, this range is stated as either "Foal crops:" followed by a range of years or "FFC:" (first foal crop) followed by a specific year if the current calendar year is within his available range. For mares, this range is stated as "Open years:" followed by a range of years and "ET open years:" followed by a range of years. Stallions may have an unlimited number of foals per year, mares may have up to two; either one set of twins or one natural carry foal and one ET foal.
AI/ET:
My horses can have foals via artificial insemination (AI) and/or embryo transfer (ET) when the foal's breed allows it. For instance, Thoroughbreds are not allowed to be bred using AI or ET, but I will allow any of my Thoroughbreds to have AI/ET foals when the other parent, and therefor the foal, is of a different breed that allows it; such as Paint, Appaloosa, or Quarter Horse. If the parents reside in different countries during the conception year (the calendar year previous to the foal's birth), the breeding must be via AI. I may, on a case by case basis, allow a small number of AI/ET foals to be born after their parent(s) stated years; these foals will be the result of either breedings using frozen semen or transplantation of a frozen embryo. In the case of a frozen embryo, the foal must have been conceived during one of the parents' available years and so there must still be at least one year of overlapping availability between the two parents (or the sire's last year must come before the dam's first if the foal is both AI and ET). Aside from these special cases, all foals must be born within their parents' stated years. Please let me know if your foal is a result of AI and/or ET breeding.
Twins:
I do allow my mares to have twins, but only on rare occasion as twins are a rarity in real horses. If a mare has a set of twins, she may not also have an ET foal that year.
Crossbreeding:
All of my horses are available for crossbreeding as long as the cross is not something ridiculous such as Shire x Shetland Pony. Some of my own horses are crossbred and available on this site.
Warmbloods:
Most Warmblood breeds allow outcrossing to specific individuals who have been inspected and approved for breeding; since this approval is so individual, I will not allow any of my Warmbloods to have foals of another Warmlood breed unless they have a real full sibling (or two parents) who is approved for that breed. Model Warmbloods owned by other breeders are not subject to this rule, but real horses bred to my Warmbloods must be approved for the foal's breed.
Inbreeding:
I will not breed two closely related horses together. I will absolutely not breed any horse to its own offspring, descendants, or siblings. I may breed distantly related horses to each other under certain circumstances. I've made note in stallions' information of any mares within his breed that he is too closely related to for breeding when the relationship is not visible in the horses' sire/dam information.
A lot of my horses are homebred, some for multiple generations, so all horses that I own will have their names written in bold print to make it easier to track relationships; i.e. Queens Oreo (Dreamfinder (R) x Hey Lucy).
Make/Model/BSO:
I accept model foals of most makes/manufacturers. Good rules of thumb are that if I have it, I will breed it and if you're not sure just ask me. I do accept foals that are only paper identities/Breeding Stock Only (BSO); but if your BSO foal gains a model body at any point in its lifetime, please let me know so that I can update my records to reflect this change.
Foal Bodies:
I do not require, but do prefer that horses with foal bodies be born during the calendar year in which their pedigree is requested and horses with adult bodies be born at least one calendar year prior to the calendar year in which their pedigree is requested.
Pedigrees:
I make my pedigrees in MS Word; if you need me to send your pedigree to you in a different format, please let me know this, and what format, in your email requesting the breeding.
Breeding Requests:
Please do not send more than three pedigree requests at a time and do include "Breeding Request" or something similar in the title. If it's been more than a week since you sent your request and you have not heard from me, please email me again to ensure that I received the original request.
Information needed in each breeding request:
- Selected parents
- Foal's name
- Breed
- Birthyear (please include 1-2 alternatives)
- Color/pattern
- Sex
- OF or Custom, Make/Model/BSO
- Owner's name
- Owner's farm name (if applicable)
- Owner's country of residence if outside the U.S.A.
If one parent is not owned by me, I will need the same information for that parent as I do for the foal plus a 4-5 generation pedigree.
I would also prefer, but do not require, a photo of the foal.
Please send all breeding requests to: [email protected]
